Madeline has a lot of special friends at her daycare Chuva.  We wanted to invite them all to our place to celebrate Madeline’s birthday but many of her friends have older siblings so we had to keep the number within reason.  Madeline invited her friend Gretta, Roman and Mia and they all brought their older siblings.  It ended up being a fantastic mix of kids and a great party!  Roman is one of Madeline’s best friends and as you can see from the photos they really do care for each other.  There is also a video of them dancing below the photos.

For Madeline’s birthday cake we had a Dairy Queen Princess cake which was a huge hit!  The kids had a blast and Ryan enjoyed playing with the older kids.

The title of this post might seem a little confusing but you need to understand that all of Ryan’s friends are Madeline’s friends.  She really truly believes that they come over to play with her and Ryan.  There is no such thing as just Ryan’s friends.  All of Ryan’s friends are great about it – they love Madeline and think that she is quite fun.

You have to see it in action to believe but she can really keep up.  If Ryan gets upset and tells his friends to go up to his room to close the door she freaks and cries.  She feels leftout.  The point I am trying to make here was that Madeline couldn’t have a birthday without Ryan’s friends but at the same time we couldn’t really invite them to Madeline’s birthday party as that whole age gap thing.  In the end we decided to have a birthday party for Madeline for Ryan’s friends.

It worked!  Ryan had a lot of fun and Madeline felt really special!

As always the holidays are crazy at our house.  This past Easter was a lot of fun and there were treats everywhere.  We decided to have an Easter egg hunt for the kids.  Ryan figured everything out really quickly and Madeline had a bit of help from her ‘big brother Ryan’.  They both ate lots of candy and had a real adventure hunting for treats!

Sometimes even mother’s need a break.  Grace took a weekend trip away to head down to Seattle for some shopping.   This meant, of course, that the kids were going to have a very exciting time with daddy.  There were grand plans like eating dinner in a tent, having a bbq and playing with light sticks as though they were star wars lightsabers.

In the end, everyone was ok and it was a very special moment when mommy returned.
