Daycare Birthday Party!

Ryan is a lucky kid.  He gets a birthday party with his friends and a birthday party at daycare.  And, of course, we celebrate his birthday at home on the actual day.  That makes for 3 parties (and 3 cakes!).  Actually, Grace baked cupcakes for daycare for his party.  I was very impressed with how awesome her cupcakes turned out.  The kids at daycare loved them, too!

Check ‘em out!

So, at daycare, during the afternoon snack time, the kids were presented with the cupcakes.  We videotaped the event!  Here are 2 videos.  The second video is of the kids singing Happy Birthday to Ryan!

Ryan’s Birthday Party (3 years old!!)

Ryan had his birthday party and invited lots of his friends over to celebrate.  This year Ryan wanted to hold the party at our house.  We moved everything around to have as much space as possible in our living room and setup Madeline’s room as a play area and half of the living room as a play area.  You can see

It ended up raining on the day of the party so the bouncy castle that our friends brought over wasn’t used which was a bummer.

For Ryan’s 3rd birthday mommy and daddy wanted to make a special cake.  This year we went way over the top and made the cake ourselves – we made a Toby cake (from Thomas & Friends).  This was not easy.  The bottom layer is rice crispy treats to support the cake and it is double layers.  The frosting was difficult but the real challenge was the fondant.  Nobody told us that making fondant at home is very very difficult or else we wouldn’t have done it.  In the end we were pretty happy with the results!!

At the start of the party Ryan invited people up to his room – I think he likes showing off his room.  Once they all arrived in his room they decided to all jump on his bed.  After a few minutes Ryan found some Easter eggs that he forgot to open from Easter and the kids loved it!!!   They had so much fun eating and sharing treats from Easter!

Video #2 – Ella and Arianna were literally fighting over Ryan.  In this clip you will see them both pulling Ryan in both directions saying “My Ryan – My Ella!” until Mika decides he’s had enough of that.

Daddy’s Chili

Daddy has been making lunches for Ryan ever since he was eating solid food.  It started out with the basics and has since evolved into more complex lunches (of course).  It is always a challenge to try and find something that is easy to make for lunch in the morning and is healthy and quick.  We like to freeze his food and thaw it in the morning to send to daycare.

Ryan’s favourite foods are Lentil Soup, Cream Cheese and Pickle Sandwiches and Chili.  This past time we made a new batch and recipe for chili.   Daddy submitted it to AllRecipes but it still hasn’t shown up – here is a copy of the recipe if you might be interested.

Happy Mother’s Day!

On Mother’s day it was hard to get a chance to get away from mommy to go and pick up some special stuff for her.  Here in this photo you will see that Ryan bought mommy a balloon and some flowers for Mother’s Day.  It was a special Mother’s Day because it was the first one with mommy having 2 kids!

Ryan keeps getting better at skating

Ryan has been taking skating lessons at the community centre.  His teacher is the same teacher that daddy has for power skating.  We both find that to be quite funny.  Ryan can now skate half of the rink backwards and can skate forward pretty quickly and glide.  I might try to post a video again sometime.

Ryan’s main goal with skating is to play hockey but unfortunately we can’t let him play hockey until he can fit into the hockey gear.  That will probably be in another 6 months or so.  Also, there are no hockey lessons for kids under 4 so it might just have to be daddy taking Ryan out for hockey….we’ll see!
