Snow in Vancouver

It is so rare for us to get measurable snow in Vancouver.  Everyone from the East Coast must think we’re weird treating snow as a special event but for our kids here in Vancouver, it really is special.  I took the kids sliding and built a snowman.  The kids at kindergarten still had class but it was a free day to play in the snow – they had so much fun!  Check out the photos and video.

Mommy’s work Christmas party

Mommy was in charge of organizing a Children’s Christmas Party at her work this year, so Ryan and Madeline got to dress up to come to the party (Ryan even got to skip his hockey practice!) With mommy in charge, they knew it was going to be spectacular!!   There were balloons, lots of yummy food, an entertainer that juggled and did magic tricks, and of course Santa who brought gifts to all the kids that attended the party.

Santa on campus!

Here is a family photo of daddy and the kids on Santa’s lap.  You may be wondering why Madeline is wearing pjs and why daddy is on Santa’s lap.  Let’s just say that Madeline is the boss and tells daddy what to do, and he listens!

Our first parent-teacher meeting with Ryan’s kindergarten teacher

Ryan received his very first report card from kindergarten and mommy and daddy got to sit down with his teacher, Roland for 30 minutes to talk about how he’s been doing.  According to Roland, Ryan has been extremely popular at school and he hasn’t seen anything quite like it in that all the kids basically want a piece of Ryan’s time.  Whew….I was relieved at the fact that I don’t have to worry about my kid being socially awkward or being a loner in school.

Speaking to Roland, I also realized that sometimes I forget that Ryan is still only 5 and that I expect too much from him.

Daddy’s performance for Ryan’s kindergarten

A lot of Ryan’s kindergarten parents are very successful people, either working for UBC or in other areas around the city.  Many of them volunteer to talk to the kindergarten class about what they do and show them cool stuff.  Daddy decided to invite them to UBC for a mini Christmas concert.  David Riley was in town so we put on a show for the kids, played 3 Christmas tunes and ended with the biggest hit of the afternoon – Star Wars!!  The kids loved it and were all very polite.  Ryan was very cute (and proud of daddy!).
