Ryan’s Graduation from kindergarten

Ryan has grown up so fast I can’t believe it.  It seems like just the other day he was crawling (actually, that’s probably not an understatement).  But our little boy is no longer little – he is officially a grade 1 boy now as he has graduated from kindergarten.  He had such a wonderful time there with his amazing teacher Roland (who is retiring this year).  It was the perfect place to send Ryan for his introduction to school.  There is no way we can sum it up in words how amazing Roland was as a teacher and how far above and beyond he went with his duties as a teacher.

Ryan will always have great memories from kindergarten and will still be able to continue on for his after-school care for many years to come.

Visiting the Bird Sanctuary

Lately Ryan had been into birds and especially Toucans.  When we went to the toy store the other day he asked for a Toucan stuffy.  He actually had a gift card from one of his friends from his birthday party so we couldn’t deny him of his wish.  We always try to help our kids when they show an interest in learning something and since Ryan has been asking for books on birds we decided to take the kids to the bird sanctuary.  Here are some photos from the event.

Ryan’s first performance

Ryan started learning the violin in January of this year.  It has been difficult to get him to practice the violin but we’ve all agreed to 15 minutes a day.  My student Christine is his teacher and she’s been doing a great job!

The first thing Ryan started asking to learn on the violin was Star Wars ‘Imperial March’ which is quite difficult because of the accidentals and rhythm.  He was determined and really wanted to play it for all of his friends at kindergarten.  Each of the kids get their own day for show & share and this is what Ryan wanted to do.  He played 3 songs – Allegro, Lightly Row and the Imperial March.  I missed most of Allegro in the video but captured the rest.  It’s worth checking out!

Ryan’s all-boy Star Wars party

This year we decided to throw Ryan an all-boys Star Wars themed party.  Grace was her typical self and organized one of the world’s greatest birthday party a six-year old boy will ever see.  She built light sabre’s for each of the kids, dressed up Ryan as Annakin Skywalker and Madeline as Princess Leia (yes, Madeline was the only girl) and had organzied games (pin the lightsabre on Yoda, pass the death star, and even a death star piñata).  We’ll start off with the invite.  Check that out!

The party was a huge hit and lots of fun.  We have a video of the Piñata being broken.  When daddy made the piñata he wasn’t sure how ‘hard’ to make it.  I think in the end it was too tough for the kids to break so after a long serious round with the plastic bat we brought out the aluminium bat.  It really hit with a ‘thunk’.  To top things off Ryan’s kindergarten teacher made an appearance as darth vader.  Even after the party the kids met and hung out with a local fire fighter unit who were hanging out for a coffee break at the park.  All in all it was the party of the year and one that we won’t forget.  Check out the photos and videos.
