This is unbelievable but needs a little story to lead into it.
Grace and I bought some new cell phones a little while ago because my phone barely worked, and Grace’s phone was literally in 2 pieces. We bought some nice phones which we love!
In our apartment (we live on the third floor) there is a small window in our living room which is baby proof, meaning it doesn’t open wide enough for him to jump through. We can vouch for that because he’s tried. The window has a double lock but Ryan figured out how to open it many months ago, so there is nothing we can do to keep him from opening it. The problem with this is that we live on the third floor and Ryan likes to throw things out of the window. This wouldn’t be so bad if there wasn’t a little girl that plays down there occasionally.
It had been about a week since Ryan last threw something out our window (a wooden lemon). We decided to leave it there knowing full well that it would be a waste of our time to get a single item. It was just a matter of time before he added to the collection.
This morning I was on daddy day care. I got a phone call from Grace at around 9:45 checking up on us. After that, I gave Ryan a little snack and put him down for his morning nap. Well, I finally thought I had a free moment to make a call. The problem was I couldn’t find my phone. I knew that I was talking to Grace on the phone from the couch – so I looked everywhere, under every cushion, pillow and place Ryan could have hid my phone. It took a while before common sense kicked in and I decided to call my phone. I dialed my phone and I couldn’t hear the ringer. I must have put it on mute…nope, couldn’t have, Grace just called me on it. Maybe the batteries ran out. Nope, I had just charged it last night.
It was at this moment that I said….No #$%^&! way!!
No! It couldn’t be!!
I ran to our balcony and looked over the edge to find a lonely phone just lying there on the pavement—all lonely and dead!! I swore so loud I must have scared my neighbors!
Anyway, I ran down and picked up my phone, and there wasn’t a crack in it anywhere. I couldn’t believe that!
Next, I picked it up and turned it on…The front screen wasn’t working. Damn it! But everything else was working.
I was really bummed that I was going to end up with a broken phone for the next 2 years that sort of half worked with a dead front screen, and I didn’t want to dish out for a new one. I called up my cell phone provider and they said that since I had only owned my phone for 29 days it doesn’t make sense for the screen to stop working.
They said that if it wasn’t working I could always exchange it for another one. The problem was to keep everything quiet and not tell them that my one year old threw it off of the third floor balcony!!
I went to Futureshop (got to love them!) -they looked it over and said, it doesn’t make sense for the screen to not work but we’ll exchange it for another..
To make a long story short. I have a new phone and will never ever ever let Ryan throw anything out that window again. But with that said, it is impossible to keep your eye on a one year old 24/7.
Someone help me!!!
