Madeline’s birth was very sudden. Grace and I were at home on Friday and I was about to make dinner when she mentioned that she felt some cramping. It is not unusual at that stage in the pregnancy to feel some contractions so we didn’t know if this was really the big moment. After 15 minutes Grace said “this is it!” Daddy finished cooking dinner and ate with Ryan while Grace called the babysitter.
After about 20 minutes Reanne arrived to take care of Ryan and we took off for the hospital. After arriving at the hospital we checked in and asked for their nicest suite. They took Grace to the examining room and said that she wasn’t totally ready to check into her room (her contractions were 8 minutes apart). After 15 minutes her contractions had gone from 8 to 2 minutes. They decided to get her up to her room ASAP. Everything progressed fine and in the end Grace did get her epidural which made things so much easier compared to last time.
After Madeline was born she just didn’t want to sleep. It got to the point that one of the nurses felt so bad for Grace that she came in and held Madeline so that Grace could sleep. At this point daddy had returned home to take care of Ryan and to spend some quality time with him before taking him to meet his new sister.
